Siobhan Moyes, DPhil, and John Chilton, DPhil, of the University of Plymouth’s Peninsula Medical School, Plymouth, England, have introduced Wordotomy, a learning tool designed to simplify complex medical and scientific terminology. Recognizing that understanding technical terms enhances learning, Wordotomy breaks down words into their grammatical roots, reducing the need for rote memorization and expanding vocabulary. By incorporating gameplay and visual aids, this innovative tool helps students derive meaning from intricate terminology. Additionally, the University of Plymouth is endorsing Wordotomy as a civic engagement and outreach instrument, further facilitating its development and use in educational settings.
